G'Day Mate,
So the 1st September soon came around and race day was upon us. All the preparation was done and nerves were well and truly upon me and my fellow supporters!
The day didn't get off to the best of starts with all start times pushed back an hour which meant more waiting around and a rethink of the nutrition plan. But you cant let these things get the better of you and we just cracked on with normal preparation.
I was last man off due to being the youngest and that meant a 3;30pm start for me with the first rider off at 10am! allot of waiting around.....
My warm up time soon came around and I got stuck into the session concentrating on my own performance and how to get ready mentally and physically. I was soon ready and lined up before the start ramp.
5,4,3,2,1 and boom down the ramp I go, I set of steadier than usual because the first half of the course was the hardest with onshore winds and the most climbs and tight turns to negotiate. I have to admit I could of gone harder in the first half but I didn't hold back in the second sector and stormed through the last parts avg 34mph for the last 3km.
I crossed the line to exhaustion and relief knowing that all the build up was over and I could start to relax after a mentally and physically tough season racing in some stunning parts of the world including France, Belgium and Australia.
The final results were up and I finished in 15th overall. I have to admit I did want top 10 but I knew I done the best I could on the day and loved every minute of it!
The support I have received from the team and in particular Jeff Banks has been amazing and it has enabled me to carrying on racing hard and loving every minute of riding my bike!
The support from my closest family and friends has also been great! they know who they are and they support me all the time on this crazy quest to gain a professional contract and they never once doubt me. That kind of support is amzing and really keeps me going. So thank you all!!!!
Now is for some time off to refresh mentally and physically which is really important because it will allow me to focus on new targets for next year/season.
So that's all for now folks.
Thanks for coming.........
