The season may be a couple of months from me writing this but preperations such as training , Nutrition strategies and race targeting are well under way. In fact it started back in October after a well earned 3 weeks off the bike.
Since then training has been specific and safe to ensure no injury’s or accidents happen during the winter months. During these months there seems to be more family and friend commitments which is nice because during the season you can get so wrapped up in strict routines that you miss out on social events, So this is a perfect time to catch up with people and let your hair down!
Saftety wise on the bike during October through to February is rather sketchy. Weather conditions make it unsafe due to the Ice, Snow, Hail, Gail force winds and just general freezing cold conditions. All these make it hard to stay motivated or even on track for your training programmes. It simply isn’t worth going out risking coming down on black ice as that could set you back much longer injury wise if you should come down.
Luckily I’ve had a very understanding and helpful coach who utilises my time spent on the bike or gym very efficiently so I can get the most from each session. Also if conditions like the ones above were to bad then he would quickly adapt the session to make sure I was safe and could still get a solid session in. Normally this means a turbo...... ouch.
As I write this I embark on a 6 week training camp in Calp, Spain. This time will be used to put in the last solid block of pre season training and getting the body and mind conditioned to a stellar year ahead.
As always thank you for following my blogs and progress. For smaller but more frequent updates follow my social media feeds!
