first few races of may! Enjoy reading aS i did racing ;)
Saturday 6th May Hog Hill:
It's good to be back racing at hog hill! I have fond memories of winning here as a junior so keen to do the same today!
The format for today was 45mins plus 5 laps with every 10mins going up the hill.
The race wasn't very animated due to strong winds and nothing staying, I was constantly attaching trying to get the move under way but no one was keen to work and help in the wind sections. This meant a bunch sprint was guranteed so the last 2 laps I went solo and had a small gap for a lap but it came back. I quickly jumped back in and got ready for a sketchy sprint. I came home 8th which was poor but behind was carnage with a massive pile up and snapped frames! Lucky!
Sunday 7th April pro cycle hire spring classic RR:
Not a good start but getting half way to the event I soon realised my shoes were at home so I sped home and was cutting it fine to make it in time! Luckily I had 30mins to spare but because I was late I was pretty cold for the first hour with no real warm up.
So ahead was just under 80 miles on a lumpy 10mile circuit.
The first hour was standard and I was just spinning the legs trying to get going. After 2laps and on a slight up hill section I sensed the group didn't want to commit so I did. I went for it and was soon away solo for over 5miles. I was told a group of 4 was coming so I kept going but did allow them to catch me so we could get going. We worked well for the remainder of the 50 miles. On the last lap we had nearly 2mins in hand so I decided it was time to drop a few of the guys and go solo with 5miles remaining, 2 riders were dropped coming to the final climb so I sat in 3rd wheel and when it kicked up I went for it and held on for the final 1km and had a sweet solo victory! Chuffed with my first road win of the season :)
Wednesday 10th may:
So it was Wednesday evenings and first time up at Bovingdon race circuit. It's a new race circuit close to me so ideal for some training.
I was late to the start so had no warm up, this meant the first 20minutes were for spinning the legs and getting warm.
Once the first few attacks came back I went for it and had a good gap with 2 other riders, we were away for a few laps then on the tight 'u' style shaped corner I over cooked it and slipped out taking allot of skin. Lucky the bike was ok and I was soon up and chased back on.
Then after 2 laps I went again and with 1 more rider. We worked well and were away with a healthy 30second lead on the bunch. coming to the last 2 laps I wanted to finish solo because I wasn't confident on my sprint. Unlucky He caught back on and the last lap was a sprint. I was close to the win but I wasn't quite strong enough to finish it off.
On Sunday me and the Team head to France for a French national. I hope to be active and get a result here. Form looks good and I have the confidence going in so I can't wait!
